What is Wonderstruck?

Wonderstruck is a project aimed at making science accessible to everyone, regardless of education level. Scientific communities tend to discuss new findings in a way that only people who have also dedicated years of their lives to science can understand. In other words, if you get, you get it, if you don't, you don't. The goal in creating Wonderstruck is to simplify astronomy and biology so that it can be enjoyed and understood by a more general audience. Everyone deserves science.

Who is Wonderstruck?

My name is Kitty. I am a 17-year-old high school senior in California and since the fourth grade, I have loved science. I was particularly fond of black holes and carried a notebook around with me full of everything I learned about them. As a young child wanting to learn more about a such a complicated subject, I found that I was quite limited in what information I could thoroughly understand. There was no resource that adequately explained the whole picture of a black hole in a way that a nine-year-old could properly comprehend. As I grew up, I noticed that it wasn't so much the subject matter that I couldn't grasp, but the way it was presented. I noticed that this was the case across many subjects for a majority of my peers as well. I felt very strongly that if only things were written in a different way many more people would be able to grasp complex scientific information. This is still my belief today. As a result, I created this website with the idea that everyone is more than capable of doing complicated things, all they need is the information in their way.
